Chapter Sixteen

How do you think Sheriff Sweeney will react when Pa explains his decision to him?  What might he do or say?  Be sure to support your reasoning with an explanation that makes sense.

Please reread and think about the last full paragraph on page 148.  What do you think Tyler could do to make up for what he did, now that his family was leaving Florida for New York?

Chapter Thirteen

When Tyler asked Mama why she was packing up so much stuff for the journey to Key West, she said, "We have to be prepared... for whatever happens."  What do you think she meant by that?  Why are they taking so much stuff with them?

Chapter Twelve

"No more running.  I'm tired of living on the wrong side of the law, and dragging you all along with me.  Running was a bad idea.  I couldn't see it then, but I can see it now." (page 119)
